March has arrived and the sun is breaking through. Although we may not be out of the woods yet, the coming spring promises sporadic warms days breaking up the winter chill. THE SWAN RIVER TRAIL
Just beyond Bigfork, MT near the northeast corner of Flathead Lakes lies the Swan River Trail. The perfect 2.5 mile hike makes for a great riverside adventure. Just be sure to pack your boots, an extra pair of socks, and maybe some snowshoes.
THE 1906 TRAIL - MOUNT HELENA
Just west of the state capital lies Mount Helena. Home to a vast variety of trails including the moderate, 2.9 mile out and back 1906 Trail. You’ll be treated to fantastic views from the top, well worth the 1,023 feet of elevation gain.
THE SUMMIT TRAIL
Just northeast of Whitefish Lake lies Big Mountain. Accessible via the Summit Trail, it’s a challenging but lightly trafficked 16 mile out and back trail perfect for hiking, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing.
THE LAVA LAKE TRAIL
Tucked between Bozeman and Big Sky is the popular Lava Lake Trail. With 1,620 feet of elevation gain and 5.5 miles out and back, the Lava Lake Trail promises a beautiful, winter forest experience and stunning lake and mountain views.
